Twisted Ambitions Yarn: Committed to Ethical Sourcing and Sustainability
At Twisted Ambitions Yarn, we believe that crafting beautiful yarns should never come at the cost of the environment or animal welfare. That’s why ethical sourcing and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do. From how we source our materials to the practices we use in dyeing, we’re dedicated to ensuring that every skein of yarn is produced with care—for the planet, the people, and the animals involved.
Ethically Sourced, Mulesing-Free Wool
We are firmly against the practice of mulesing, a painful procedure that some sheep endure in wool production. That’s why we ensure that all our wool is mulesing-free, sourced from trusted suppliers in South America. These farms prioritize the welfare of the animals, and their wool meets the OEKO-TEX Standard 100, guaranteeing that no harmful substances are used throughout the process. Beyond animal welfare, we’re proud to say that the working conditions at these farms are fair and non-exploitative, meaning that every part of our supply chain is built on respect.
Eco-Friendly Dyeing Practices
Twisted Ambitions Yarn is committed to minimizing waste and reducing our environmental footprint through thoughtful dyeing processes. We use non-toxic acid dyes, ensuring that the colors you love come without harm to the environment. To set the dye, we use food-grade citric acid, a substance naturally found in foods and water, which biodegrades easily without leaving a negative environmental impact.
We also minimize water waste by carefully managing our dyeing batches to ensure that as little as possible goes unused, keeping our process efficient and eco-conscious.
Soak: Our Go-To Wool Wash
When it comes to caring for our yarn, we use a wool wash called Soak, a product that is as gentle on the environment as it is on your knitwear. Soak is sulfate-free, made with renewable ingredients, and contains no harsh chemicals like glycols, EO, PO, SLS, SLES, DEA, or MEA. It’s also made with plant-derived, biodegradable ingredients, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
But that’s not all—Soak’s bottles are crafted from 100% post-consumer resin, and the labels use recyclable materials with water-based, environmentally safe inks. For those with sensitivities, their Scentless version has no parfum, but all Soak products remain gluten-free, and they don’t contain any animal products or by-products. Furthermore, none of the ingredients or final products are tested on animals. Responsibly manufactured in Ontario, Canada, Soak represents a sustainable way to care for your hand-dyed creations.
My Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is more than just a buzzword at Twisted Ambitions Yarn—it’s a way of life. I’m deeply committed to reducing my environmental impact through a series of thoughtful practices that guide every part of my business.
1. Reduction:
I focus on reducing waste through careful management of my dyeing processes. I only use what is necessary and avoid excess materials whenever possible, ensuring that every ounce of yarn produced is used efficiently.
2. Reuse:
Wherever possible, I reuse packaging materials, particularly boxes from previous shipments. To maintain hygiene and ensure that your orders arrive in perfect condition, I always use new internal packaging.
3. Recycling:
I recycle all cardboard materials that come from my suppliers, doing my part to keep waste out of landfills. For packaging, I use biodegradable cellophane bags and recyclable poly-mailers, so you can feel good about your purchase knowing it comes with a reduced environmental impact.
Moving Forward
At Twisted Ambitions Yarn, I’m continually working to improve my sustainability efforts. Whether it’s through our ethically sourced materials, eco-friendly dyeing techniques, or recycling initiatives, I’m committed to making environmentally conscious decisions every day. Together, we can make a difference by supporting businesses that care about the planet and each other.
Thank you for joining me on this journey to create beautiful, responsible yarn that you can feel good about using in every stitch.
