When I listen to music, I don’t just hear it —
I see it.
I close my eyes, let the world fall quiet, and allow the sound to take over. Notes stretch and blur. Chords soften and sharpen. Rhythm turns into movement. Somewhere between the melody and the silence, color appears.
This is how color is born for me.
For February’s Yarn Club, that process led me to Sound and Vision, inspired by the song Sound and Vision by one of my all-time favorite artists, David Bowie.
From Sound to Color
Music has always been where my ideas begin. Before a colorway ever exists on yarn, it exists as a feeling — something atmospheric, emotional, and often hard to put into words.
When this song plays, everything slows down.
There’s space in it. Room to breathe. The sound feels suspended, almost floating, and that stillness is where the color comes into focus. With my eyes closed, the vision was immediate: blue first, deep and calm, with violet lingering just beneath the surface like an echo or a shadow.
Not loud.
Not forced.
Just clear. Certain.
That clarity is what made this colorway feel right for February — a natural step deeper into the Full Spectrum journey.
The Shift Into Blue
January opened the year with Purple Rain — expressive, imaginative, full of emotional spark. Violet was the beginning.
February is different.
With Sound and Vision, the spectrum doesn’t jump — it glides. The imagination turns inward. The noise fades. What remains is focus and reflection. Blue steps forward, violet stays close, and the color feels quieter, but no less powerful.
It’s the moment where sound stops being something you hear and becomes something you feel — and then something you see.
Why This Matters
This is why I love mystery yarn clubs.
You’re not just receiving a skein of yarn — you’re receiving a moment. A mood. A story that begins long before the dye pots are on and finishes when you open your package for the first time.
The full colorway reveal waits until it’s in your hands. That first look — that moment of discovery — is part of the magic.
Sound and Vision is an invitation to close your eyes.
To listen.
To imagine.
To experience color the way I do — not just with your eyes open, but with your whole heart.
Welcome to February.
Welcome deeper into the blue.
